She has a 328xi M sport (manual) coupe in white right now. Well, actually, I should say had....
The engine went kaput on it for some reason (it only had like 10k miles on it!), so she took it to the dealer. The dealer replaced it. Now guess what? The engine is kaput again, like a month later. The dealer has no idea what the heck is going on and contacted BMW USA. BMW USA has no idea what is going on. They keep finding metal shards in the oil pan, but are totally confused on why the shit it's happening. Sooooo, they said screw it, and just let her get a brand new 4 series for free. Not bad. They are letting her build it to her own specs as well! According to my mom, its going to be "blue" (I hope its the color I posted...), most likely AWD, probably a 428 but I reaaalllyy hope its a 435, and definitely a manual because that's all she'll drive (I know, she's awesome). Now, I know everyone will be asking why AWD. The answer? Northern Ohio. So yeah, pretty awesome. I go up to Ohio and visit my family (which includes her) every year, but sadly the bimmer is supposed to be delivered by mid-January, and I leave early January. I'll try to get pics once it does get there, though. Oh, and my Uncle has a brand new 911. They certainly have a good track record in cars, my Aunt and Uncle.

I don't think you can get a manual with the #35i and xdrive, I don't think you could in the e9x either. If she is doing to stick to her guns on a manual she might have to give up xdrive or stay with the 428i (not sure if they'll let her have a manual with xdrive there either).

She'll probably just get the 428 then. I would hope they still have the manual + xdrive option, because that's the one she would get. Why would they drop that option? (other than being stupid)

That is awesome!!!
Glad BMW is taking care of their customer.

No-one buying them. Doesn't make sense business wise to sell something that so few people are even remotely interested in.
I wish the car buying process was more European in North America. In the sense that most people order their car exactly how they want it and then BMW will build it, rather than BMW building batches of what will sell and shipping it over.
That way BMW could offer more options and only send over only what's needed.

I'm sure there are people in the snow belt that buy them!

Disregard. Wrong reply.

The percentage of people interested in a manual is too small. Plenty of people buy #35i with xdrive, just not many of them want a manual.

It's too bad. I'd love one too but that's just the situation we're stuck with.

They killed the 28xi manuals, but they still offer the 35xi in manual. Frustratingly they don't import the 328i wagon, 335i wagon, or the 328xi wagon with a stick... Not that it matters, the F-3X is complete garbage and BMW is going down the drain. I have had a number of F30's for weeks at a time and never found myself wanting to keep driving them. The steering is beyond garbage, and it honestly feels like a very upscale camry (i.e. Lexus). Test drove a 2011 (last year E90) 328i 6MT the other day and had a smile in no time.... So sad. In fact I am beyond tempted to buy that '11 328i MT it was so good. I mean it's the last true naturally aspirated I6, RWD, BMW sport sedan.
For the record, I own a 335is and god is she amazing.

I'd double check that. I know the 335i was offered in a manual for the e9x but I don't think it was ever available in North America with xdrive. I think it's the same for this generation: eg. the 335i and 435i can have a stick but I don't think you can have one with xdrive and a manual.

Really? The configurator doesn't seem to want to work for me so I can't check.

Great news (to me).
I wonder if this is true in Canada as well. If it's not a big bother, could you check the Canadian site for me? www.bmw.ca/ca/en/newvehicles/configurator/configurator.html

F30 335xi manual
Funny thing is, for sport related models North America FAR out options manuals relative to the rest of the world. Where elsewhere they are seen as plebeian, here they are seen as pure and sporty because every Camry has an auto whereas every Renault Leguna has a manual.

I just wish they still offered the 328i or 328xi wagon in manual. I'm looking to replace my trusty 9-2x Aero Saabaru daily, and my RWD or AWD hatch options with a stick are quickly dwindling to zero (may have to go for either a used '11 E90 wagon which would be awesome anyways or wait 3 years for Subaru to reintroduce the WRX hatch).

That is a very strange problem with the engine. I guess black-swan events do happen every once in a while. I guess its not so bad considering the upside ;) Very good outcome to a potentially bad situation.
